Developing good homework habits is crucial for your child’s academic success. By dedicating just a few minutes each day to reviewing their schoolwork, you can help them stay on track and understand the main topics they are learning.

Here are some tips to help you get started:

Set a schedule – create a schedule that works for you and stick to it. This will help you stay organized and ensure that you have enough time to complete all of your homework assignments. Make sure to include 5- 10 min breaks if needed. Having a clear schedule is preferred by students as well as it helps them anticipate and plan for upcoming events.

Create a productive study space – this would include a space that is quiet, comfortable, and free from distractions. You can add your own personal touches with decoration, I.e. plants, or low music if you prefer, sitting beside an open window, etc. This will help you stay focused and make the most out of your study time. Make sure that your space is well-lit and has the necessary supplies you need, such as pens, paper and textbooks.

Eliminate distractions – including social media, video games, and T.V. while studying. It is important to stay focused and avoid multitasking.

Use technology wisely – Technology can definitely be advantageous by using apps and online tools, such as study timers, to-do lists, manipulatives, and other websites related to targeted subjects you are studying.

Get enough sleep, make sure to get enough sleep each night to help you stay focused and alert during your study time. Lack of sleep can affect your ability to concentrate and lead to poor academic performance.

Ask for help, always ask for help if something is unclear, as the saying goes 4 eyes are better than 2!

For parents:

By dedicating just a few minutes each day to reviewing their schoolwork, you can help them stay on track and understand the main topics they are learning.

Before you begin reviewing with your child, take a few minutes to read through their assignments and worksheets on your own. This will help you gain a better understanding of the material and allow you to provide more effective support during your review session.

Remember, developing good study habits is a process that takes time and effort. By making homework review a regular part of your child’s routine and providing them with the support they need, you can help them achieve academic success and develop lifelong learning skills.
